The Girl Effect

Passing it on…

April 1, 2008

I found this site via The Lazy Seamstress and I just wanted to share…

Goods 4 Girls
*excerpt from their site below*
Goods 4 Girls was started to help young women gain access to better menstrual products. Our goal is to help these girls live their lives and go to school without fear that what they are using during their period will fail.

We provide coordination for women who are interested in sewing or otherwise donating new, reusable menstrual pads to areas of Africa where obtaining high-quality products is difficult.

Working in concert with aid and relief organizations, we identify areas of need and have the ability to distribute the donations where they are most needed.

On a personal note…

Christmas decorationHi there! I hope you are all having a fabulous holiday season and aren’t rushing too much and feeling stressed out! I’m taking it a bit too easy over here actually -we JUST put up the tree. And then only because Santa wouldn’t visit otherwise! Nothing bah humbuggy about it, there’s just been so much stuff to do! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving, the best ever actually, and I’m looking forward to Christmas & New Years being more of the same.

Speaking of New Years, one of my New Years Resolutions for this year is to stop getting so caught up in everything that I forget those things that are the most important to me. When I first started Girliebits Designs, I wanted to closely associate myself and lend my talents to those causes and charities near and dear to my heart, such as breast cancer, victims of domestic abuse, and teenage pregnancy. As time went on I found myself so caught up in work that I barely had time to come up and breathe to realize that I had fallen short of that goal.

I feel very lucky in that respect, being able to keep myself busy doing something I absolutely love. But, I really now want to focus on getting back to giving back. So, for those of you wondering what the business name change was all about, that was the main source of inspiration. I’ll be updating the site soon with more information, I just thought I’d do a quick post to share what was on my mind for now!

I’d love to hear from you if you have any comments or suggestions for me on this topic!
